On April 28, 2021 at approximately 0854 hours, Carlisle Police were dispatched to Giant located at 255 S Spring Garden St for a retail theft. Video surveillance was reviewed, and the suspect was identified as Byron Hudson. Hudson was located a short while later in the first block of W Louther St, still in possession of the stolen merchandise. Based on prior convictions, this retail theft is graded as a felony.
Officers advised Hudson that he was under arrest, and he began to walk away from officers. Hudson was instructed multiple times to stop and advised he was under arrest multiple times. After following Hudson for a block, officers attempted to use pepper spray to affect the arrest. When officers attempted to handcuff Hudson, Hudson swung a thick glass wine bottle at the closest officer's head. Hudson then began to flee by running through a local business building and onto N Hanover St. Officers pursued Hudson to the Square where Hudson ceased running. Hudson continued to walk away from officers and refused commands to stop. Hudson was safely taken into custody in front of the Courthouse with assistance from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office who responded due to the proximity of the pursuit to the Courthouse..
After being cleared by EMS, Hudson was transported to Cumberland County Prison for arraignment on the listed criminal charges.
