On Aug 6, 2019 at 12:51 am officers responded to a 911 call from an 8 year old male child who told emergency dispatchers that he awoke to find himself all alone and that he did not know where his mother was. Officers were able to locate the child, who was calling from a cell phone, with the assistance of the 911 center staff who were able to provide officers with a general location of the cell signal.
Officers determined that the child had in fact been left alone un-supervised and took the child into protective custody. Cumberland County Children and Youth services were contacted and a case worker did respond. As police were about to turn the child over to CCC&Y, almost 3 hours after the original call, the child's mother arrived at the police station. The mother, Shericka Jones, was interviewed and the child was turned back over to her.
Jones will receive a summons in the mail to answer to the charge of Endangering the Welfare of a child, and was also referred to CCC&Y services.
