Beginning today, September 2nd 2021, the Carlisle Police Department will begin a wave of pedestrian safety enforcement and education. Over the last 5 years, the Carlisle Police Department has responded to 61 pedestrian related crashes. The goal of this wave is to reduce the number of pedestrian related crashes, and although education is the preferred method, enforcement action will be taken against the most egregious violators. Police will be at various intersections and crosswalks throughout the Borough monitoring pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Motorists are reminded:
-At uncontrolled crosswalks, pedestrians within a crosswalk have the right of way and vehicles must yield
-SLOW DOWN when approaching mid-block crosswalk
Pedestrians are reminded:
-Do not enter the crosswalk until vehicles are safely able to yield
-Follow pedestrian control signals at controlled crosswalks
