On June 23, 2018, at 10:28am, the East Pennsboro Township Police Department were dispatched to the Holy Spirit Hospital for a report of a trespasser. Upon arrival, security advised that Robert W. Flickinger, 79, of the 400 block of Market Street, Newport, had been discharged from the hospital earlier that morning. Upon being discharged, Flickinger sat in a wheelchair in the entry to the Emergency Department registration. He then got up, got a blanket from a crib and sat on it. Flickinger defecated on the blanket and left the area. Flickinger then returned and placed a newspaper on another wheelchair and sat on it. Flickinger then got up and the newspaper was wet. Hospital staff approached him and gave him options on how to get home as well as assistance with using the bathroom. Flickinger refused help and went outside. Security approached Flickinger and told him that he was no longer welcome inside the hospital. He then entered the lobby, stands and urinates, and leaves. Flickinger would not talk with the police about the incident and did depart the hospital property. Charges were filed against Flickinger for Disorderly conduct and Criminal trespass and he will face a preliminary hearing before MDJ Sanderson.
