On May 13, 2019 Austin Mummert deposited a check for $150.00 into his Member's 1st Federal Credit Union. The check was from a Wells Fargo Account held by a Jason M. Bowie. Over the next two days, he deposited multiple checks from Bowie totaling $2,260. Subsequent to the deposits, debits were received out of Mummert's Member's 1st Account to include ATM withdrawals of cash, debit card purchases, and other transactions that caused the money from the checks to be debited from the account.
All of the checks were returned to Member's 1st Federal Credit Union as bad checks, closed accounts. Member's 1st staff spoke on the phone with Mummert and advised him that the checks returned and were fraudulent. He advised that they were "work" checks and that he had been given them for construction work he was doing.
Mummert was later arrested on a warrant and acknowledged that he and Bowie worked together for this case. Mummert admitted to his participation in this criminal event and also acknowledged that Bowie worked with him as well. Arrest warrant for Bowie served.
