On September 21, 2018 around 9:32 PM, the Lower Allen Township Police Department was dispatched to Dick's Sporting Goods for a retail theft that occurred two hours prior. It was reported that two people stole a large amount of merchandise. The suspects were described as a B/M, thin build with a beard wearing a gray hooded top and gray joggers and yellow ball cap; a B/F thin build wearing blue and white checkered head scarf, white long sleeve shirt with black print and blue leggings.
They both entered the store from the parking lot at about 6:41 PM. They were both pushing shopping carts. They chose numerous North Face duffel bags and took them into the fitting rooms. They then selected numerous winter jackets and outdoor apparel and took them into the fitting room and put them into the duffel bags. The suspects then left the store lugging the duffel bags out the door without paying for any of the merchandise. As they were leaving an alarm sounded in one of the duffel bags. A sales associate heard the alarm and saw the suspects walking out the door. The sales associate notified the manager. They then checked the fitting room and found the empty hangers and bubble wrap. It is believed the suspects used bubble wrap to put around the merchandise in the duffel bags to muffle the sound of the alarms.. The suspects left the store at 7:23 PM. The merchandise consisted of North Face duffel bags, Columbia winter jackets, TNF Osito Fleece, Adidas men's apparel and men's Nike apparel. The total value of the merchandise stolen was $6797.00.
Photos of the actors were observed. The next night Lower Allen Township Police Department was again approached by the Dick's manager regarding a possible active retail theft. A black male, later identified as Joshua Hinton, was on his phone walking in circles through the store. Hinton was later observed getting into a vehicle parked in the mall parking lot occupied by the two other individuals that were observed leaving the fitting room of Dick's.
Using video surveillance footage, Hinton was positively identified as the male suspect from the retail theft on September 21, 2018. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
