On July 11, 2019 at 7:34 PM, the Lower Allen Township Police Department was informed of a "quick change" scam that had occurred at Walmart. A heavy set black male wearing a white shirt, black hat, and dread locks, asked for change for a hundred dollar bill. During the exchange, the male was able to take his bill plus more money from the clerk. The male stole around $399. Video surveillance revealed that the suspect fled the area in a black SUV. The investigation determined this to be a Dodge Journey rented out of MS.
A Crime Watch release was posted. LATPD was later contacted by multiple sources identifying the suspect as a Joseph Stewart. Stewart is on Pike County MS probation and is known to go around the country committing similar quick change scams. He also has the nickname, "Mini hand", due to having a smaller right hand. Re-watching the video, it is apparent that the suspect does in fact have a smaller hand.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Stewart.
