On June 23, 2020 the Middlesex Township Police were flagged down in a gas station parking lot by a driver of a vehicle that was just rear-ended. The driver of that vehicle said he was just hit, and the driver took off. A few seconds after Middlesex Township Police were told this, the suspect vehicle, a red Toyota 4Runner, pulled into the parking area, with the vehicle's airbags deployed. Middlesex Township Police identified the driver of that vehicle as Benjamin Caldwell. Caldwell got out of the vehicle, and Middlesex Township Police approached Caldwell to speak to him about the accident. Middlesex Township Police determined through their investigation that Caldwell was under the influence of alcohol to a degree that he was incapable of safely operating a motor vehicle. Caldwell was taken into custody and charges with DUI and following too closely.
