On Wednesday October 23rd, 2019 at 1746 hours, Newville Police observed a black Volkswagen sedan speeding 45mph in a 25mph zone on East Main Street in Newville. Newville Police activated their emergency lights and siren and attempted to pull over PA registration HNX7096. The driver fled from Police and a pursuit was initiated.
The driver turned onto Mt. Rock Road and reached speeds of over 80mph. Newville Police advised Cumberland County Dispatch of the pursuit and they advised the Pennsylvania State Police. Troopers were coincidentally in the area of Mt. Rock Road and witnessed the driver speeding by them. Newville Police and PSP cancelled the pursuit shortly thereafter, after observing multiple sporting activities and traffic near the Big Spring High and Middle Schools. The Pennsylvania State Police later located the vehicle nearby and pulled the operator over. Newville Police responded to the scene. The driver was later identified by his PA drivers license as ERROL LYNN HORST (26) of Carlisle. HORST was arrested and taken to the Cumberland County Prison.
