On October 25th at approximately 1600 hours, the Newville Borough Police were dispatched to a domestic dispute on the first block of North High Street, Newville Borough. Upon arrival, Police met the original caller who was in a dispute with her mother about a family issue. Upon further questioning of both individuals, Police were made aware that the caller's boyfriend, later identified as Lane Bretz; frequently stays at this residence and possibly has a firearm in the house. Police were informed that Bretz is on parole for Aggravated Assault, and that due to this he is prohibited from possessing any firearms.
Police received consent to do a search of the residence. During this search; a North American Arms 22LR Revolver was discovered hidden behind the basement refrigerator. Upon retrieving said firearm, it was ran through county dispatch by its serial number. Dispatch informed Police that the firearm in question had been reported stolen by Carroll Township Police in York County.
Through further investigation, it was discovered that Bretz had received the firearm from another individual who may be the culprit behind the theft. Due to the information, a Felony Arrest Warrant was issued for Bretz on 10/26/2021. That same day, Newville Police located Bretz in Carlisle, PA; where he was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Prison for arraignment. Bretz is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing which will take place in January.
