On February 28, 2023 the Shippensburg Police Department received information that a vehicle stolen from Iowa, was in the area of Shippensburg and the person who had stolen the vehicle was also in possession of a firearm. At approximately 9:00 PM on February 28, 2023 an Officer from the Shippensburg Police Department observed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle in the 300 block of East Burd Street. The occupants of the vehicle were detained. Jabree Battle, age 24, previously of Carter Lake, Iowa was suspected to have stolen the vehicle. He repeatedly resisted arrest while being placed into a patrol vehicle. During this time the other occupants of the car that had been detained, and bystanders who arrived at the scene and involved themselves in the incident, repeatedly refused to obey the commands of officers at the scene. As a result, officers from multiple other agencies were called to ensure the safety of the scene and secure the suspect for transport.
As a result of the traffic stop, Jabree Battle was charged PA Crimes Code violations: 3921 a Theft of a firearm; 3921 a Theft of a vehicle; 6105 a1 Persons not to possess a firearm; 6106 a Firearms not to be carried without a license;5104 Resisting arrest of other law enforcement; and Title 35: 780-113 Prohibited Acts - possession of Marijuana. In addition to these charges, Jabre Battle was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.
The incident was resolved without any serious injuries.
