On December 20, 2022, Judge Jessica E. Brewbaker sentenced Valdez Cutler-Fisher of Carlisle (40 years old) on charges of Indecent Assault of a Victim less than 13-years-old to one year less one day to two years less one day in Cumberland County Prison. As part of his sentence, Cutler-Fisher is not eligible for the work release or the re-entry program. Cutler-Fisher was further ordered to undergo a sex offender evaluation, have no contact with the victim or any minors, and register for the rest of his life with SORNA (Megan’s Law).
In June of 2022, the 11-year-old victim reported to her mother that Cutler-Fisher slid his hands down her pants and touched her vagina with his fingers. The incident was immediately reported to the Pennsylvania State Police in Carlisle. After an investigation, charges were filed by Trooper Kara Gooley.
First Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hair LaRue prosecuted the case. Attorney Hair LaRue noted the strength and courage of the victim in reporting the crime and then facing the defendant in court during sentencing where the victim submitted a powerful victim impact statement to the court that was read in open court by a victim advocate. In her statement, the victim noted her own strength and resilience in overcoming the trauma caused by the defendant’s actions.
Special thanks to Trooper Gooley from the Pennsylvania State Police in Carlisle and Adrianne Vaughn from Victim Services.
