On April 19, 2023, Baishi Bailey pled guilty in front of the Honorable Judge Jessica E. Brewbaker to 4 counts of Drug Delivery Resulting in Death. Bailey was immediately sentenced to a period of 8 to 24 years incarceration in a State Correctional Institution. Bailey was scheduled to start trial on Monday April 24, 2023.
Charges in this case arose from a Cumberland County Grand Jury indictment which led to his arrest on November 8, 2022. Between December 18, 2020 and December 26, 2020, Bailey delivered fatal doses of crack cocaine laced with fentanyl to Josh Cuff, Duane McNeal, Jackie Berrier, and Kristine Bailey ultimately causing their deaths by acute fentanyl and cocaine toxicity. The entirety of this case, from grand jury through sentencing, was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nichole L. Vito.
District Attorney Seán McCormack commends both Detective Matthew Johnston, of the North Middleton Police Department, and Corporal Jeffrey Kurtz, of the Carlisle Borough Police Department, for their diligence and dedication with their investigation. DA McCormack also praised Senior Assistant District Attorney Vito for her hard work, dedication, and preparation of this case. "Everyone involved in this case worked endless hours to bring justice to the victims and their families. I would like to thank them all for their hard work and commend them for their dedication. The fentanyl epidemic has taken too many lives. However, with the convictions in this case, we are able to remove a dangerous dealer from our community and poison from the streets.”
