June 8, 2022 -District Attorney Seán M. McCormack today announced the start of Cumberland County’s new Human Trafficking enforcement initiative. As part of this initiative, law enforcement officers conducted their first operation, code named Impact Demand this past weekend. The Cumberland County District Attorney’s Criminal Investigation Division partnered with the Upper Allen Township Police Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in an enforcement operation to identify and arrest individuals attempting to solicit sex for money.
The operation resulted in the arrest of six men over the weekend. The defendants responded to an online advertisement for a female escort, made arrangements to meet at a hotel, and offered payment for sex. The defendants were taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Prison for processing. Charges of Title 18, Section 5902 Prostitution were filed at District Court 09-3-05.
In discussing Cumberland County’s new Human Trafficking enforcement initiative, District Attorney McCormack commented, “This weekend’s operation was just the beginning. Operation Impact Demand was designed to attack the human trafficking problem by focusing on the demand, that is the customer side, of the equation. This was the first, but certainly not the last, operation of this type we plan on conducting here in Cumberland County.”
Cumberland County law enforcement is committed to protecting anyone who is trafficked and exploited sexually. Future enforcement operations are planned to arrest and prosecute those that would attempt to victimize others in this manner.
