DEATH PENALTY NOTICE FILED IN SHIPPENSBURG AREA DOUBLE HOMICIDE/ARSON

On July 11, 2022, the Honorable Michelle H. Sibert formally arraigned Larry Burns on charges of Criminal Homicide, Arson, Conspiracy, and related offenses for the double homicide and arson that occurred in Southampton Township on February 23, 2022. Simultaneously with the Criminal Information, the Commonwealth filed a Notice of Aggravating Circumstances indicating its intention to seek the death penalty if Larry Burns is convicted of First-Degree Murder at trial. The Commonwealth alleges that Larry Burns and his co-defendant shot and killed two victims and then set the Southampton home on fire. Following the homicides, Larry Burns fled the state. He was ultimately apprehended and extradited from North Carolina. Mr. Burns is currently scheduled for a Pre-Trial Conference in September.
