On February 7, 2023, Mark Boisey appeared before the Honorable Judge Edward Guido for sentencing, following a trial where a jury convicted him of two counts of Attempted Homicide, three counts of Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm, four counts of Aggravated Assault, Strangulation, and Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure. Boisey was sentenced to an aggregate sentence of 20-40 years in a State Correctional Institution.
After getting into a verbal altercation with his then-girlfriend, Boisey returned to their shared home in New Cumberland and assaulted her. She testified that he kicked in a locked door to their bedroom, pulled her out of bed, and pointed a gun at her head while screaming threats at her. Although she was able to get out of the room, Boisey caught up to her, strangled her against a wall and continued making threats. She eventually was able to escape and fled to her neighbor’s home.
While she was in the neighbors home, Boisey began firing the gun repeatedly at her, attempting to kill her. Police arrived at the scene and Boisey quickly turned his gunfire on them. Throughout the incident, the defendant fired between 30 and 50 gunshots at the victim and the responding officers. Police were able to take cover and, eventually, were able to get themselves and the victim to safety. The Special Response Team (SRT) was called to assist and the police able to take Boisey into custody without further incident.
District Attorney Seán McCormack thanked the jury for their work on this case and praised law enforcement for their efforts in bringing the Defendant to justice. “We are grateful to all of the officers who put their lives on the line on that day. Due to the brave efforts of the officers, this standoff was resolved without any loss of life.” The District Attorneys Office commends the New Cumberland Police Department, Lower Allen Township Police Department, and the Special Response Team for their incredible policework during this incident and Senior Assistant District Attorney Lauren Perchinski for her prosecution of this case.
