On May 26, 2022,  Dawson Adam Smith, 19 years old, waived his preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Kathryn Silcox, on charges of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault by Vehicle Causing Death or Serious Bodily Injury, Accident Involving Death or Personal Injury, and other offenses. Dawson is alleged to have struck and seriously injured a PennDOT employee in a construction zone April 13, 2022. It is further alleged that Dawson fled the scene and failed to call for help, despite being aware that the victim had been struck and injured. The victim sustained serious injury and is recovering, but currently unable to return to work. The case was investigated by Silver Spring Township Police Department and the preliminary hearing was handled by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Robinson.
