Lateral Hires
An applicant may receive credit for up to sixty (60) months of prior law enforcement experience. Borough Council, in consultation with the Chief of Police, shall determine, in its sole discretion, how much of an applicant's prior experience qualifies as prior law enforcement experience for purposes of determining starting salary.
The applicant's prior law enforcement experience shall be reduced by twelve (12) months to account for the additional training that the applicant will need to undergo within the Borough's Police Department.
Upon hire, the applicant shall receive the base salary then in effect for an officer with his/her months of service, up to the 49-60 month salary, as shown above. Such officers shall not receive the annual wage increase until the successful completion of their probationary period or the January 1st following their date of hire, whichever occurs later.
The rate of pay for an applicant with prior law enforcement experience who is still required to attend the Police Academy and or obtain Act 120 Certification shall be seventy-five percent (75%) of the applicable base salary, defined above, until such time as the applicant becomes fully qualified to perform the duties of a Police Officer.
