Parking Tickets

If you received a ticket in person or on your car, look down at the bottom of the ticket for instructions for your response and follow them carefully. Nothing further will be mailed by the department unless you get a reminder of the ticket. We shall give you one chance to pay the ticket then we shall write a citation for parking. A Summons (Citation) is sent from the Court by First Class mail indicating the offense charged, fines and costs, and instructions for response unless you fail to respond, at which time a Warrant will be issued for your arrest. Metered Parking 

I.  Designated Parking Spaces

a.       Make sure you are in one parking space only.
b.      Vehicle should be parked in between the white lines and meter situated at front or rear bumper of your car. 

II.  Meter Rates

a.       You can receive 15 minutes free by pressing the button located below time display.
b.      Additional time can be acquired by putting coins in increments of Nickels, Dimes and Quarters. 

III.  Handicapped Parking

a.       Handicapped spaces are marked by sign and blue emblem on parking space. You must display placed by hanging on rear view mirror. 

IV.  Ticket Payment

a.       Payments may be made either in person between the hours of 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. We can only accept 4 coins with the payments. If by mail, at the address printed on the back of ticket. After hours (4:00 PM – 8:00 AM) a drop box is provided for your convenience. After hours payments are accepted in the form of a check or money order, no cash.  

V.   Violations/Penalties

a.       Payment of fines within five (5) days will avoid possible higher penalties and cost of prosecution. Fines are subject to increase after forty eight (48) hours.

 

Violation:

Up to 48 Hours - $5.00 for any parking tickets for meters

48 hours to 96 hours - $15.00

96 hours to two weeks - $30.00

Two Weeks it shall go to a citation

Metered parking areas. Any person violating the provisions of Article IV, § 144-36 thereof, Violations, shall be guilty of a summary offense and, upon conviction, shall be sentenced to pay a fine of $40 plus costs; provided, however, that any person accused of said violation may settle and comprise the claim against him or her for such illegal parking by paying to the Borough the sum of $5 within 48 hours from the time such illegal offense was committed, or $15 within 96 hours from the time such illegal offense was committed. If the fine is not paid within 96 hours from the time such illegal offense was committed, a notice of payment due will be sent to the owner of record, the fine will increase to $30, and payment must be made within two weeks of issuance of the notice. [Amended 12-7-2004 by Ord. No. 783, approved 12-7-2004]

Definitions of "Park" or "Parking"-

(1) When permitted, means the temporary storing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, off the roadway.
(2) When prohibited, means that no person shall stop, park or stand any vehicle, whether occupied or not, except momentarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading property or passengers.

General rule.--Outside a business or residence district, no person shall stop, park or stand any vehicle, whether
attended or unattended, upon the roadway when it is practicable to stop, park or stand the vehicle off the roadway.

Parking tickets can be paid at the Shippensburg Police Department from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM weekdays or anytime at the dropbox outside the department offices.
